Continuing with advancements in AI, Microsoft recently announced updates to Windows featuring Copilot+, its AI solution. One of its new features, “Recall,” automatically captures screenshots of desktop activities in real-time, aiming to streamline user experiences.
Recall enables users to search through their past activities, including files, photos, emails, and browsing history. Additionally, the tool captures and stores screenshots periodically.
Privacy Concerns Addressed
Understandably, users raised privacy concerns, fearing potential misuse by hackers of the stored screenshots. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) also expressed concerns and initiated inquiries.
In response to feedback, Microsoft has revised its approach. Users will now have control over what Recall accesses, and the feature to save screenshots will be an opt-in choice during setup, initially turned off by default.
Implementation Timeline
Microsoft plans to implement these updates before the official launch of Copilot+ PCs on June 18th.
